Our home

Outside of the house.

Here are a few pictures of our new home.  There are little corner stores throughout the neighborhood.  We have a barber shop and a store right across the street. Danj and Zane are just popping over to get some water (our jug ran out) and an ice-cream.  There are many paths, alleys, roads... hard to tell what goes through or into someone's home area.  There is a mix of apartments and private homes.  Many walkways are covered with grape arbors.  On our walks we see many street cats, mostly quite young, people strolling, kids playing, biking and climbing around empty buildings, plastic bottles, graffiti, lovely watermelons, Palm trees, Mimosas, Pomegranate bushes, little birds and God's eyes.  We hear the train, doves and roosters.  The people we meet are friendly and we feel welcome.   Today it rained and the weather dropped about 10 degrees.  It has been 35-40 since we arrived.

These trees are home to some little birds that I have yet to identify.  They find some scrumptious worms in the garden.

Zane's room.  We play basketball with the shipping boxes and yoga ball.
Porch
Up to secret room, down to kitchen.
Kitchen with windows to a central courtyard (alive with cats).
Entry way.  Front trees are pomegranite and cherry.

The fellas in the entry.
Coaster in the entry.
Entry leads to the bathroom.  To the left is  Zane's room, to the rt. is the kitchen.

Settling in to Baku

Well, new to Blogging and new to life in Baku, Azerbaijan. We just got our internet connected at home yesterday and my wife spent the day looking at different Blog designs with WordPress. I gather you can do a lot more with it, but Blogger is easier. So I just decided to look into this and see if this feels good.

So Azerbaijan, so far has been hot and humid. It is now 10:30 at night and I've got the air conditioning on. Actually I have tried not to be such a wimp and open the windows, the problem is that you get a great deal of dust or dirt that will blow into the house and so, not sure how much I want to deal with that.

Very interesting mix of wealth, poverty, luxury, old Russian industrial neglect, wood, marble, concrete, and cultural charm here Baku.
