Quba, a trip to the mountains

Ah, fresh air.
River crossing to Quba
View of the mountains.  A hike across a farmed field.
Lots of frog along the river walk.
Danj on our wet river walk.
A little get way of wooden cabins outside of Quba (about 21/2 hrs north-east of Baku).  Walks along the river and through farm, pasture and private land.

Layers of life; people collecting river rocks, sheep grazing on river's edge, cows down for a drink, rubbish along the far bank.

Zane with his birds and happy they could have a box.  When he first selected his birds, string was wound around their feet as they hung upside down.

Going to find the chickens
Ladas are a Russian made car that is everywhere here.  The non wagons look like a little Jetta.  Last year an NGO made a fundraising calendar that was titled Loaded Lada featuring all sorts of Ladas carrying a wide range of goods.  Here's Loaded Lada heading to the mountains, the directions of our hike.
Check out that beetle.

The way to and from Quba is farm country.  Apples, pears, eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers and hazelnuts in season.  Loading up on farm fresh on the way into the city.  The fruit and veg in the city come from here and the price is similar but it is fun to find it close to the source.
Zane's photo of a cricket.  The most successful catch.
Zane and the birds at home.
Interesting top feathers.  One of the hens has green legs.
At the market in Quba picking out the chickens.

  2. Neat--amazing the way the one frog fits in so nicely with the metalic grey in the rocks it is sitting on. Poor chickens. Bet they were happy you rescued them.
